Custom Saddle

I knew it was a pure act of fate, As I scrolled down the Facebook page. This flashy picture captured my attention, The perfect style and shape for my age.

I was mesmerized by the pointed square skirts, The elaborate pattern of intricate flowers. A Keetch horn balancing the smooth, bound cantle, To try and resist was not within my power.

So I hit the Facebook Message button, Needing to know the when, where, and price. How do I get my name on the list? I’ve never owned a saddle so nice.

I sent a bank check, for my tree deposit, To secure my spot in the line. Next came the official order form, With options and measurements, to make it mine.

Now it’s hard to improve on perfection, With a couple of tweaks, we’d be there. Mostly, I’d prefer an in-skirt riggin, But keep the skirts pointed and square.

Cover up that hand hole with leather, Make the front end solid and sleek. Upfront, the perfect pair of small, rounded swells, To help me hold on, if my ridin’ is weak.

Hand carved flowers covered the surface, They added the right buckaroo flare. I already had a rough out saddle. This one would make other cowboys stare.

Now, I know perfection takes time, And Rome wasn’t built in a day. But my mind wasn’t exactly listening, As I awaited the completion day.

I imagined all the grand adventures, For my new saddle, little black horse and me. No ornery cow or stubborn bull stood a chance, We’d be a force to reckon with, you see.

A good cowboy takes pride in his gear, There’s more to it than just tools of the trade. It’s a statement of skill and geographical location, A visual snapshot of the life he’s made.

Not every cowboy is given the option, To call a custom saddle his own. The excitement of personal customization, And the smell of new leather, really hits home.

A good saddle could last a lifetime, With some care and no bucking horse wrecks. My new saddle should last me for many years, Or ’til I find the one to order next.

We are still on the saddle waiting list. 😊 It’s getting closer though, only 1 year left to go! Thank you for the kind words. ❤️ It really means a lot to me!

what does it mean, Temi: 1 year left to go?
Do you remember the saddle I’ve purchased from D. Stanford at the Big Loop, made by Skeeter Clark?
It’s waiting for me at a friends place in a mountainous valley in Italy and I will pick it up in two month time. I doubt I can use it because of my leg problems, but it’s nice to look at anyway.
We wish you success with your family ranch life and a good and prosperous spring time!

When we first ordered the saddle, we were told there would be a 3 year wait. The saddle maker had several orders ahead of ours, as well as the saddle tree builder. Now it is getting closer, with approximately 1 year left. I’m sorry I don’t remember your saddle. There is a new Facebook page, based in our area, that allows many people to post their buckaroo & ranching pictures. There have been several pictures of Skeeter Clark, as a young man, working as a cowboy in Nevada. If you have access to Facebook, you would really enjoy it. It is called, The Big Out There: A Buckaroo Life in Art and Words. It will be nice to have your saddle home. We usually have a saddle on display in the house too. We have had a cold, wet spring, but the cows will get to go out in the sagebrush fields on April 1. We are all ready for warmer weather. Thank you!
